North Shore beach, Llandudno

North Shore is Llandudno's main beach, curving for around two miles between the Great Orme and the Little Orme. It has golden sand, pebbles near the promenade and plenty of space to spread out. Llandudno Pier, the longest in Wales, sits at its western end.

The sheltered bay is popular for swimming, sailing and windsurfing, and there are boat trips out into the bay in summer. The Esplanade is right on the promenade opposite, so you can be on the sand in a minute.

West Shore, Llandudno

West Shore is on the other side of town, facing the Conwy estuary. It's quieter than North Shore and sandier, with views across to Conwy Mountain, Anglesey and the mountains of Eryri. It's the place to be for sunset.

It's a short walk from The Esplanade through the town centre. The tide goes out a long way here, so keep an eye on it if you're paddling or swimming.

Angel Bay, Llandudno

Angel Bay is a small, rugged cove on the Little Orme, at the eastern end of Llandudno Bay. There's no road down: you reach it by walking up and over the headland, then down a steep path. It's quiet, with lots of birdlife, and you may spot seals offshore.

Deganwy beach

Deganwy is just south of Llandudno, towards Conwy, and has views straight across the estuary to Conwy Castle. The Wales Coast Path runs alongside it. It's a good choice if you'd like a beach without the crowds.

Penrhyn Bay beach

Penrhyn Bay is east of Llandudno, just past the Little Orme. It's a long pebble beach with a high sea wall, good for a quiet walk and rock-pooling. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the shore.

Water sports

North Shore's sheltered bay is good for kayaking and paddleboarding, and guided tours are available if you'd like to explore the coast with a local expert. For surfing, Adventure Parc Snowdonia has an inland surf lagoon a scenic drive away in Eryri.

Picnic spots with a view

Haulfre Gardens looks out over the town and the sea, and has plenty of space for a picnic. Happy Valley, at the foot of the Great Orme, has views over the pier and is quieter than the beach.
